This marinara sauce recipe will taste equal if not better than the store bought sauces. It eliminates the watery sauce we generally get when we make it at home, and replaces it with an aromatic and tasteful thick tomato sauce.
Homemade Marinara Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 LBS Tomatoes
- 1/2 an Onion diced
- 2 TSP Fresh Basil (or dried)
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Pepper
- 1 1/2 TBSP Garlic Powder
- 2 TBSP Olive Oil

- Bake the Tomatoes: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Start by washing your fresh tomatoes and cutting them in half. Place the halved tomatoes on a baking sheet, cut side up. Bake them in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. This roasting step enhances the flavor and sweetness of the tomatoes, and removes excess juice making your sauce rich and delicious.
- Blend the Ingredients: Once the tomatoes are roasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. In a blender or food processor, combine the roasted tomatoes, diced onion, fresh basil leaves, pepper salt, and garlic powder. Blend until smooth, adjusting the seasoning to your taste. If you prefer a chunkier sauce, you can pulse the mixture a few times instead of blending it completely.
- Slow Cook for flavor and Texture: Transfer the blended mixture to a crock pot. Set it to low and let it slow cook for about 10 hours.
