Gift wrapping is so much fun. Deciding colored themes for paper, turning on your favorite movie putting on pj’s, cutting and wrapping gifts all day. It can be fun but also extremely expensive and not super sustainable. All that fun work from a few days before turns into garbage for the landfill all in the span of about one week! This also means we spend money on wrapping gifts every year because of this method. Let’s begin to change that this year. Here is five more sustainable ways to wrap Christmas gifts.

5 More Sustainable Ways to Wrap Christmas Gifts
1.) Gift Wrapping Fabric
Fabric gift wrapping has become more popular the pat few years but it isn’t new to the world. People have used this method for a very long time. I personally, am glad that this is becoming a more well known method of gift wrapping. Not only is it super cute and dainty, bit it also is extremely sustainable. Once the person has unwrapped the gift you simply ask for the fabric back and use it again. OR let them keep it for whatever they desire it for. Either way it gets reused or used for something. This isn’t just something you throw away. Amazon has so many options for this, but my favorite is below.
2.) Gift Inside a Gift (box, tool box, tote bag, basket etc.)
Next is to buy a gift that holds the smaller gifts. If the person loves wicker baskets, buy a basket! If they are in need of a tote bag or new purse buy one and fill it with the rest of the gift. For Father’s Day one year my siblings and I bought an old tool box and filled it with jerky, cheeses, BBQ sauce, seasonings, and more. Think outside the box, or wrapping paper if I may. (That was lame.. I know).
3.) Gift in Glass Jars
Consider gifting in glass jars! Mason jars or more decorative jars for pantries, decor, or larger storage. This could be canned goods, baked good, and things like that. But it doesn’t have to be. You can stuff gift cards, socks, hot coco mix, a shirt, seeds, lotions, and so many more trinkets into jars. This would be a beautiful way to gift, and would also be extremely useful if given to the right person.
4.) Beeswax Wrap
They don’t make beeswax wrapping specifically for wrapping gifts, but this doesn’t mean it can’t be done. My next favorite purchase is going to be a set of beeswax wrap FOR wrapping my Christmas gifts.
They don’t make them in extremely large sizes so this works primarily for smaller gifts!
(That first link will lead you to a general search, click the link below to see one of my favorite patterns!)
5.) Newspaper or Old Paper Bags
This one doesn’t need much of an explanation or introductin because people have been using this for years! But it is a tried and true alternative to wrapping paper. Unlike the rest these do get ripped up and thrown out. But if feels better when you have to throw these away after Christmas morning because they already HAVE been reused by going on a gift as wrapping. You also don’t have to simply throw them away. Wrapping paper has plastic film on it that newspaper and paper baggs don’t. Which makes it easier to use as fire starter or in compost for next years garden beds!
