Not long before this post I wrote on sustainable replacements for gift wrapping paper and in my opinion that post wouldn’t be complete without a following on sustainable replacements for Christmas bows. It’s seems a shame to waste so much on wrapping paper and decor to use once and throw away, so this year it’s my mission to present (see what I did there) some newer and more sustainable options! This post is on sustainable gift decorations besides a bow.
3 Sustainable Gift Decorations besides a Bow
Though I can think of a million options to replace bows with, I will share my top three in hopes of giving you some ideas, inspiration and to apply toward personalizing for your family and friends. Let’s save a little waste and give more earth friendly or useful items through wrapping.
1.) Earth Friendly & Related Items
Using nature to beautify a gift is my favorite. This can be pine sticks, cotton sticks, flowers, or anything alike. Be sure not to put them on too early so they don’t wither and also make sure it’s non toxic items or out of reach if you have kids or animals!
If it came from nature and remains in it’s natural state it can go back once your done using it. This creates compost for the earth and makes for beautiful and elegant gift wrapping decorations.
If you went the flower route, they have a beautiful touch to their home until they wither!
2.) Christmas Tree or Home Decor
If you don’t want to go the plant route decorations with ornaments instead of bows is another quality and way more sustainable option. This can be used time and time again, and can be personalized to each person or fit a gift wrapping theme.
Amazon has beautiful bulk ornaments to choose from! My favorite are these pinecone ornaments and these crystal ornaments. Though you can sneak around to find some favorites of your own here.
3.) Ribbons
Ribbons of different kinds are way more sustainable and reusable compared to bows. Used for different projects or saved for next year (because they never loose their ability to tie like bows lose their sticky ability). Also, depending specifically on the ribbons you buy, they can also be used in compost, and depending on length can be donated to thrift stores to be used in someone’s future crafts. Ribbons and craft rope can also be found beautifully on Amazon (very elegant and Christmas related colors and themes).
