It’s August, which is the month that begins the transition to Fall. Summer can be so busy as adults. Gardening, market, preserving, lake days, jobs, the whole season is a lot of work as an adult! Especially as a homesteader. But Autumn. Autumn is the season we begin to relax. It’s the season squirrels and bears prepare for resting and I think God I rented us to follow suit in their endeavors to cozy in. That is a major goal for me this Fall and I think it should be for you as well. Since that can be hard to do, especially with no direction, this post is to help with just that. Here is seven slow living activities for Autumn. Looking for a cozy Fall? Keep reading!

Seven slow living activities for Fall
1.) MOVIE DAY
This is my favorite way to spend a free day in the Fall. Bring out all the cozy blankets, pillows, warm drinks, and Fall related treats to watch cozy movies all day. It is an intentional way to relax. I love to watch lighthearted movies and shows. Nothing that is too spooky but I love movies that remind me of the Fall. This would be Scooby Doo, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, and so many more. Let yourself splurge ahead of time on some Fall blankets, pajamas, and candles to make it even more inviting.

2.) Bake a Fall Treat
Even if you have just a few hours in your schedule for some free time, time to slow down baking an Autumn themed dessert always makes me feel the hygge Fall feelings. Hand pies are becoming such a big homemade goodies these days and Amazon has a such adorable shapers to make them Fall themed.
Regular pies in general are also extremely Fall in nature (we have a pie crust recipe on our Instagram)! Pumpkin bars, muffins, breads, fritters, the list is as long as you want to make it. There is also lots of flavors that remind us of Fall. You could make anything apple or pumpkin flavored and it would remind you of Autumn.
3.) Go on a Hike
I feel like Fall is the perfect season for hiking and I know that others would agree. It is so warm in the Summers that my favorite time to be outside is actually Fall. You get to where leggings without being too warm and the sun isn’t beating down on you all day. Hiking on a cold Autumn day is a slow living activity I can always get behind. Take the day to explore, bring lunch and relax with friends or family in the woods. It’s a great way to get outdoors to relax and rejuvenate before Winter hits.
4.) go on a picnic
If you are not into the exercise of hiking and feel that that doesn’t really fall into your version of “Slow living activities for Fall” I get it. I mean I love hiking but it isn’t considered relaxing to everyone (even me sometimes). A way to still get outdoors to relax without having to hike up hill for four hours is to plan a picnic. This could be accompanied with any other activity on this list (especially the next one). If you really want it to scream Fall there is lots of food choices that. Carmel apples are a fun one, a pastry listed above, soups and more. I have a blog post about unique food choices for your next picnic that can help you out. Be sure to dress for Fall weather and bring a big cozy blanket!
5.) Bible and Tea Time
The most important thing we can do all times of the year is to read Scripture. I have mentioned in a previous post that there is so many passages in Scripture that feel like they fit the themes of Fall. Ecclesiastes, Luke, and Ruth are three I listed of five. I love to read the Bible in themes, and falling into Autumn is one that can teach us so much. So be sure to make time to relax in your favorite chair, with your favorite drink, a notepad, pen and your Bible to commune with God. Allow this time in Fall to be one of reflection and rest as you ponder God and the earth in its transition. All the animals are tucking away, in many ways we are to, and Jesus has lessons for us in this time. Sit down with a warm drink and dive into Scripture.
6.) Visit a PAtch and Carve Pumpkins
As an adult I feel like I have stopped doing so many of the things we enjoyed as kids. It doesn’t matter if you are single, married, have children. You are never exempt from the fun of pumpkin patches and making a mess all over your kitchen floor carving the ones you picked out. Enjoying Fall can often look like enjoying these traditions. Going to a patch and carving the pumpkin is one of my favorite things to do. Now that I am an adult I also make it a more wise task by saving the guts and the seeds to preserve for later. But the joy is equally shared then with my younger self and my adult self. Spend the day walking around the Fall themed farms and then put on that movie we talked about to style your pumpkins. It is a fun activity that never grows old.
7.) Learn a New Hobby
Last year around this time I was learning how to knit. That is a hobby for Fall you guys. It was so much fun and so peaceful. It requires both hands so I wasn’t mindlessly scrolling or doing chores. It also is a hobby you sit down while doing. This was a great way to spend my Fall days and I will pick it back up again in a few weeks when the garden is over. I seriously recommend finding a hobby that matches that hygge feeling of Autumn. Reading lots of books would be a good one, sewing, learning to cook or crochet. It teaches skills that are super useful as well as giving you something restful and fun to partake in. Learning to knit again and reading lots of books is on my list of hobbies for the next few months. How about you?
