XIt’s Fall. Which means we are at the height of the canning and preserving season as well! One of my favorites to make as a healthy snack is fruit leather, and since I just picked apples I though there was no better time to share my simple fruit leather recipe! Specifically apple fruit leather, with only three ingredients!

The only tools you will need is a good blender for this and a food dryer (sheets and mats). These links lead to the two that I use and recommend from Amazon. The dehydrator I used this year is not what I recommend because of shape. You want a rectangular piece.
Simple Three Ingredient Apple Fruit Leather Recipe
Depending on how much you want to make and the size of your dehydrator this recipe may need tuned, just a forewarning!
What matters is the consistency. You want it to be like a smoothie left out to melt. Its a little thicker than juice, but no where near smoothie consistency. It should easily swoosh around in the blender cup when moved. See this picture below:
Every apple variety is different so remember to adjust the recipe where you see fit, using my pictures as examples! (If you have questions you can leave them below or send us an email).
With these pre-warnings and tips out of the way, let’s get into the recipe.
Three Ingredient Apple Fruit Leather
Equipment
- 1 Blender
- 1 Peeler or Knife
- 1 Set of Measuring Cups
- 1 Food Dehydrator
- 1 Box of Plastic Wrap
Ingredients
- 8 Cups Chopped Apples
- 7 Cups Water
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
- 1 Can Oil Spray of Choice
Instructions
- Plug your clean kitchen sink and fill part way with lukewarm water. Add in all the apples.
- Wash apples with sink faucet and water in the prefilled sink. (Scrub with hands, no soap or scrubby)
- Peel each apple and slice into one inch pieces
- Add apples to the blender along with the other two ingredients
- Allow to blend for twenty seconds (or eyeball consistency- looking for a watery texture)
- Once the consistency is slightly watery (yet not like juice or water- it should still have some thickness to it) it’s ready.
- Spray your drying mats with oil of choice.
- Pour the liquid onto each mat until all are full and even.
- Turn on dehydrator to fruit setting or most appropriate setting. If your’s has no settings just turn it on.
- Let it go for the time your machine says or check on it periodically after the first six or seven hours. My machine took twelve hours to complete.
- You know it is done when it does not come up in your finger when touched, and when it is easily peeled off the drying mats.
- After this, cut into sections, roll them up, put plastic wrap around them, and freeze if you aren’t eating immediately.
