This is three things that changed about my life when I started pursuing a simpler lifestyle. Some changed intentionally, and some did not. If you are looking for inspiration or a clue into simple living, this post will give you some insight.
Going from big city (which is still laughably small to most people) to small town life the way I lived changed organically. Most of it was eventual and not guided by my mind or choice but simple differences in the two lifestyles. I adapted these and made choices as well, in my own life to change the way I lived, and live now.
Without further ado, there is three things I do differently now that I pursue a simpler lifestyle.
1.) Said goodbye to cable or any paid streaming service or TV network.
This was the first change that took place toward this way of living. It was not totally intentional, because of certain circumstances we never got around to or were able to get it.
Instead of a cable service we go to second hand stores and buy movies. This is extremely fun, monitors the content we watch, is less connected to the world (commercials, news, political agendas), and allows us to watch fun childhood films. Once we get tired of a set of movies we get rid of them and buy more. It is a slightly old fashioned way of living but that is the point of living simply in many aspects. I will admit we have one streaming platform: Disney+. Which is mostly child friendly content, and easy to pick and choose from compared to apps like Netflix.
Doing entertainment this way is extremely fun, monitors the content we watch, is less connected to the world (commercials, news, political agendas), and allows us to watch fun childhood films.
2.) Stopped Eating Fast Food and at Most Restaurants
Where I live there is no fast food chains or restaurants. This of course means I have no fast food in my diet unless we travel. But the more I went without fast food, the more I began disliking food from restaurants in general. Just because it is cooked slower, or is small town doesn’t mean the grease is any more good for you. With time my body and my tongue began hating the taste and feelings of eating any food that is cooked outside of the house. I do eat deli food from my local grocery stores, like pre-made sandwiches. But rarely do I consume anything outside of the phone that is not something lighter or fresh.
3.) I stopped putting off visits for my health, and white knuckling pain.
For years I white knuckled pain, and ignored my health, like going to the dentist every six months. My whole life ai have hd health issues that I never saw someone for. There is literally ways to take that away, by going to the doctor’s office. I try not to put that off anymore. If I am not well, I want to feel better if it’s possible. I no longer ignore these things but make an appointment so I can live better and at more ease or get treatment for my health if I need it. It’s so important and feels so much better to just simply get help in your daily life.
That is my list of three things I do differently (or things that have changed) since pursuing a simpler lifestyle.
