It is Christmas time again in just a few short months. Each year we try so hard to be extremely intentional with our gift giving which can be hard if you know your friends interests or not. Lots of the gifts we purchase fall under one main category- which is homesteading themed gifts. Sometimes that is such a vast topic it can be hard to narrow down, it can also be hard not to but the same things each year, like canning jars and gift cards to the local tractor supply. Those are always much needed items but let’s docs little more this year for our homesteading friends, specifically our off grid aspiring friends. This is five unique off grid gift ideas for Christmas, birthdays or just because!

The BEST Off Grid Gift Ideas
We have been living less off of large chain businesses, more on the land and practicing homesteading for a very long time. Most enthusiastically the past two years. This year I have done a lot of research on different products that would make it so much easier to live off the land. Not just easier but more productive and better chances of survival if we suddenly were without a lot of the things we rely on like power, electricity, water sources and more.
so hopefully with our research, finding some really great and extremely golden items for off grid living, you can surprise your friends ad family with items they will love this year. Items they will love AND that have great use, meaning and purpose to them.
1. Solar Powered Charger
Having a solar powered charger is my favorite “off grid” device that we have. Just because you are living off grid does not mean that you can’t have any comforts or be comfortable. Solar powered chargers can charge cell phones, computers, tablets and any similar devices. In an emergency it makes sure your electronics stay charged if you need to make an urgent call or contact anyone.
After countless power outages where one of us was home alone with just a few candles and no cell phone to check on the others and vice versa we opted for a solar powered charger. We always want to make sure we have a way of communicating with one another, checking in different alerts and messages we get over the phone and this is the best way to always have that availability. Your off grid friend will think the same way, and this will be the perfect gift. Click the image below for the most highly rated, top picked solar charger on Amazon. The exact one me and my family have and LOVE. It works so great.
2. Emergency Foods
The second of our five off grid gift ideas is bulk foods! You cannot go wrong with bulk foods, but keep in mind they need to be shelf stable. Grains, powdered foods, freeze dried, dehydrated foods and more can be found on the market that have long shelf lives. These are foods that the person will never feel they have too much of.
A few examples of this would be grains, wheat berries, gallons of water. Some dehydrated powdered foods likes gravy and milk. But where do you find these foods? It’s super easy. Just looking up bulk food or emergency food on Amazon will give you a million ideas. Making it easy to find something you know they will love.
3. Manual or Hand Crank Tools
We off grid girls love electricity- but when it comes down to it, it’s not always reliable. As a back up we keep hand crank kitchen tools on hand along with non electrical tools for our lawn care, wood care and more. Opening a gift of a hand crank grain mill will only make a few people happy- extremely happy. Your off-grid-living friend is one of them.
Grain mill, radio, flashlight, generator. There is a hand crank item for each type of homesteader on your list.
4. Educational Books
The second to last of our five off grid gift ideas is educational resources. There is so many good books on homesteading, canning, living off grid, living off the land and so many more. This is a great idea for people who are just starting, desire this lifestyle, want to learn more. My favorite is using Winter to gain knowledge since it’s cold, snowy and most of our time is spent hunkering down. Christmas is a great time to gift your friends books to read.
Below if three of my favorites, but if you want to explore more click here for off grid living books on Amazon.
5. Do It Yourself Kits
The last and most fun gift idea if DIY kits. Amazon has a million kits for children, adults, boys, girls- everyone! If your friend wants to live off grid, it would be great for them to know how to make cheese and craft their own soap! What a fun gift idea to buy them a kit for these specific things. It creates a new skill, gives them a valuable set of items, and creates memories for this person or family.
