Homemaking Routine Tips for a Happy Home
Keeping up a home is hard work, all the dishes, countertops and laundry that need cleaned seems to never end. Along with this we often wish there were actions to take that would add to the home in a way that makes it feel like home. Creating a welcoming environment to not just guests but our own family- those that live in the home. After many years of intentionality we have found beautiful ways to not just clean the home but to make it beautiful for the family. This is five tips for to add to your Homemaking routine for a hygge and inviting home.
1.) Fresh Flowers
Having fresh flowers in a vase at home is one thing but keeping them up daily helps to prolong their freshness. We change out their water maybe even their vase. We give them nutrients and make sure that we take out the flowers that are dying or wilting to keep the bouquet fresh. Along with this you can add to them new flowers from the garden as they come up! Always having a colorful fragrant centerpiece to our home makes us so much happier!
I know many people cannot do this because of allergies! But there is many other options. Faux flowers is one! Here is some beautiful options from Amazon with amazing reviews. First some white tulips and secondly pink peony flowers.
Another idea is a centerpiece bowl with lids of colorful fruits in it (real or faux). I prefer real, because it makes the home more alive. Simply having a decorative centerpiece in the kitchen or a burning candle that you replace with the seasons adds that same effect to your home as flowers!
2.) Make Your Home Custom to You
For example if you don’t want that TV anymore get rid of it- it doesn’t work for your family. Maybe instead of a guest room a play room. Whatever it may be! If you love to read or encourage that in your home create a reading nook. When we create a home that fits traditional modern house looks sometimes it interferes with our family dynamic. Make your home work for you. Make it a place that encourages your hobbies and skills, flows with your routine and creates peace within the home.
3.) Bring the Outdoors Indoors and Vise Versa
By this I primarily mean: open your windows and doors! A healthy home is a home full of fresh air and sunlight! During the summer it’s a part of our Homemaking routine to open the windows and doors throughout the day. It feels so good to have the home inviting in the outdoors. Through the breeze, the birds and the butterflies that come in and out. This can help air out your bed sheets, couches and pillows, drapes and general smell of the home as well.
4.) List of Expectations
With how overwhelming it can be to keep up with the home it can be so beneficial to have a list of the absolute must do’s for the day. These are things that would be a priority to get done and the rest can move to a different day. This allows you to stress less as you condense your list. Making time for play and fun with the family. Quality time with those we love and enjoying our homes are sometimes a greater priority than making it look perfect or well oiled in appearance. It simply allows us to sit back and enjoy the things that matter when we have priorities and once those are done enjoyment of the things and people around us.
5.) Prayer
Prayer is a big part of what makes a house a home. Scripture reading as a family, prayer, inviting the Spirit into your home and the works of your hands is what ultimately makes a home beautiful. This is what makes a flourishing and healthy environment!
You can do this with devotionals if that helps! This one is a family prayer book called Deep Roots! It’s so good!
