Some people are harder to Christmas shop for than others. Especially are clutter free friends, the minimalists. Christmas gifts for minimalists are tough. We always want to make sure that we buy gifts that mean something to the person we are gifting to but that isn’t always easy. We all know what it’s like to receive a gift we don’t like. Then we keep it for years because we feel bad, and then donate it four towns away so they will never find out. We never want to be the person on the giving end of that scenario. Especially with our minimalist friends. To help you stay out of this situation I have put together a small list of quality Christmas gifts for minimalists.
I began my minimalist journey a few years ago and have slowly but surly began getting rid of everything I own. The first thing to go was trinkets and items that lacked sentimental value. This being said, I know the struggle, and have put together a small list of ideas that will mean something to your friends that don’t like material possessions this Holiday Season.
Three Christmas Gift Ideas for the Minimalist in Your Life
Get your cup of coco, turn on some Christmas tunes and let’s get into it!
1.) Buy Experiences, Quality Time, Memories
Most people who practice minimalism don’t have gifts as their love language. So it makes sense to buy memories and experiences with your friends over material possessions. Here is a few examples:
- Bring them to a nice restaurant
- Plan a massage
- Lessons to learn to play an instrument
- Dance Classes
- Tickets to a concert, Zoo, Gardens
- Day trip
- Day out to ice skate, eat, etc. (treat them for the day!)
- Tattoo
2.) Memberships and Subscriptions
Something extremely valuable (that isn’t just a gift card) is a membership or subscription. Buy a year’s worth plan and let them know how long it is good for. Cancel, discontinue buy for an allotted time with a manual renewal, or pass the information along to them when the year is up. Some examples for this would be:
- Any Streaming Service, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video (First 30 days free), or Disney+
- Memberships to local super stores like Costco, or online super stores like Amazon Prime.
- Subscriptions to online other miscellaneous services like Audible. Or for those who like to workout at home, cook their own meals. Literally a subscription for everything these days!
- Online Classes
3.) Give them gifts that get used up (or that they wouldn’t mind if it can’t be used up)
I don’t mean (necessarily) the usual like candles, soaps, and things alike. Some examples would be:
- Ingredients for their favorite meal or baked goods that you can make with them or they can do with someone special (kids, spouse)
- A journal with a set of pens
- Treats for their animals
- Something to fuel a hobby or favorite activity
- Knowing the person really well, so that you know a specific thing they DO want like a new pair of shoes because their old ones are worn enough to throw out.
- Self Care Package
