Autumn is this week, by the time you read this it will be Fall. As a Christian Fall reminds us to slow down, to rest, to be comforted. It’s a time to slow down. It’s also a time of extreme change in nature. Gardening is over soon as the snow billows begin to grow and leaves make their way from tree tops to the grounds below. Many of us feel emptiness as the Summer’s tasks and busyness end. Before we allow that to over take us we can take time to rest. Then begin bringing new and peaceful activities in to take their place. For me this looks like sitting down with tea to read a good book. As a Christ follower, lately I have been trying to read primarily Christian books to gain knowledge- along with my Summer gardening books! Growing as a Christian is so important, becoming more Christlike, and practicing correct doctrine. If you are in the same boat, looking for the same things this Autumn this post is for you. This is five quality Christian books to read this Fall.

What Kind of Books are These?
I am VERY particular about the books I read. It may sound harsh but closeness with Christ and filling your mind with correct Christian theology that matches the context of true biblical doctrine is so important. Especially when you are not just trying to observe of become aware of different points of view but when you are looking to soak. To open your heart to glean and learn. It is still important to read with awareness of truth even in books others you trust recommend. But I give these a 10/10! So each of these books I have read, know someone that has read it, has been recommended by theologians or pastors I trust, and are all ones that follow scripture and reflect its truths! Again, don’t put a book on the same level as reading the Word and Holy Scriptures, but diving into good books always grows your faith as well!
With this, let’s dive into these five extremely quality Christian books to read this Fall!
Five Quality Christian Books to Have a Deeper Relationship with Christ
1.) Suffering by Paul David Tripp
If there was a book outside of Scripture that I recommend for suffering and how we deal with the affects of this broken world on our lives, bodies, minds, etc. this would be it. Given to my family by an elder’s wife in our church it is extremely biblical based. It doesn’t dismiss suffering but explains how the Bible should inform our suffering- especially so we don’t get stuck in the trap of looking horizontally during our trials instead of vertically. Such a good book. I’m not finished with it yet. But there is no doubt in my mind that it won’t finish how it has started and that the benefit will lessen at any point. It is a book full of truth and rich content, a must read, especially for hard times.
2.) Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray
You will see in just a few seconds and with a little scrolling that I think so highly of the work that Andrew Murray put out in his lifetime. As number three is also another Andrew Murray book. He writes in such a way that makes your mind explode with knowledge. Each page is filled with rich content. Your mouth will be dropped the whole time. Read his work slowly to savor it and chew on it. Mull over his words and see how much truth he brings out from Scripture. It is like a holy slap in the face to read his work. Learning such intense truth that we are often not walking in as modern day Christian’s. It is humbling and reminding of how much we are different from Christ until we truly surrender to Him. This is a book I have read and will reread in the future often!
3.) Humility by Andrew Murray
Do you feel me getting repetitive here? It’s for good reason! Humility is another golden gem written by Andrew Murray. His work is just so impressive. Older books and authors always have a way of saying things about Christ and His Word that feels like it clicks in ways we don’t hear a lot today. Humility is the definition of a book like that by an author like that. By both books by him and you will be sitting in a very fruitful and knowledgeable Autumn. If you are looking for quality Christian books, you could never go wrong with his work. Learn about surrender and learn how humility and how Christ’s humility should bring us to a humble dwelling as well. So good!
4.) Little Pilgrim’s Progress
To be truthful I am an adult who loves the children’s version of this book far better than the adult version. It is far less harsh with wording and easier to comprehend because it’s for young children. But reading the children’s version made me realize how beautiful this story is, how true this whole metaphor is. This book will teach you so much about the Christian’s walk on earth. It isn’t for the faint of heart if you read the adult version, it can be confusing, somewhat depressing to read. But once you understand it, goodness, such a good story. Truthfully I recommend becoming like Christ says: a child again, to read this book. Enjoy the illustrations with your kids and glean from it. I definitely recommend the children’s book before diving into the more complex adult version.
5,) Gracelaced Devotional
If you are looking for a devotional that specifically was created to reflect the Seasons of nature this is the one. There is so much wisdom to be gleaned from the changing seasons and this book will seriously dive deep into the different seasons as a mirror to look into the seasons of our own lives and how we handle them. Such a good devotional that always leads you to the foot of the cross, the feet of our savior and reminds us of our dependency on Him. A book that reminds who we are at our core, the minor stressors that we face, craziness of life and how that should all lead us to Jesus.
This was five quality Christian books to read this Fall for a closer relationship with Jesus. Nothing beats Scriptures but a book that reflects the Scriptures is worth reading.
Thank you so much for reading and I hope these books touch you like they did me this Fall. May this be a Season where we draw near to Christ and learn more about Him. Bless you all!
