Equipment for Making the Chai Tea
If you have read my posts before you know that I will always recommend reusable items that are non toxic. I don’t usually recommend anything plastic, anything with Teflon, and the list goes on. So I have linked below (press the photos to shop) the equipment I use to make this tea. It’s super simple and you more than likely already have most of these around your house.
Making the Chai Mixture from Scratch
Though this specific recipe doesn’t necessarily call for the chai mixture to be made from scratch you can absolutely do that! I generally don’t but I do have a recipe for if you want to do that. A recipe like this one I am making is important to be simple for people who cannot do everything from scratch. Buying the tea bags is oftentimes easier than making it on your own. But if you can and want to this recipe from The Fewell Homestead page is a great one. Since my recipe is more about how to make the tea itself and not the mixture for the chai I am passing you to her if you want to make your own! With store bought tea bags in hand for me this time let’s get into it.
Chai Tea Ingredients
This recipe is also one that you can very easily modify to your liking. Sometimes I change it up if I want to taste more spice, if I want it more creamy, if I want to taste chai or vanilla more. The list goes on. It’s extremely simple and easily modified and that is why I am sharing it with you. Save a few dollars from the coffee shops and make the chai tea of your dreams at home. As you learn what you like there is lots of things you can add to or take away from this recipe! But below is the specific ingredients I primarily use to make it taste super similar to the coffee shops. If you do lots of your shopping online you can press the pictures below to shop the items!
Along with these five items you also need whipped cream and creamer. Again lots of this can be substituted or taken out. If you would rather use maple syrup, honey or monk fruit sugar substitute you can! Along with that you can use dairy milk, oat milk or whatever is your favorite! Go with or without the cinnamon garnish and whipped cream. The combinations are endless. These are the specific ingredients I use to keep it low in dairy and fitting to my tastebuds!
How to Enjoy the Drink
Before getting into the specifics of making the drink I have to add in some relaxing ways to cozy up with this drink. It is one I occasionally have on the go but primarily I love to sip on this as I have a slow paced day around the house. This mostly looks like reading or cleaning up the home. The book I am reading now that makes me think of colder days and cozy times is Pride and Prejudice. I have been enjoying lots of classic books this year and I am dreaming of the day when it’s in the cold weather again with a delicious homemade tea or coffee in hand. Also don’t forget the Fall themed blankets.
Simple Homemade Chai Tea Recipe
Equipment
- 1 Kettle
- 1 Tea Strainer (only if you are making the tea from scratch)
- 1 Small Pot (this is to warm the milk in)
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Water
- 1/2 Cup Milk of Choice
- 1 Tablespoon Sugar or sugar substitute
- 1 Dash Vanilla (or to your liking)
- 3 Tablespoons Creamer of choice (you can do as much or little as you want)
- 1 Can Whipped Cream (for topping)
- 1 Pinch Cinnamon (for garnish)
- 1 Bag of Chai tea (if you are not making from scratch)
Instructions
- First you will fill your kettle with water and put it on the stove until boiling (until the whistle sound goes off). At the same time pour your milk into a small pot on the stove and turn the stove on medium low heat. While the milk is warming put the tea bag in the pot with it to begin the infusion. You can also warm the water and milk together but not everyone likes to get the milk as hot as the water. Just warm slowly if you mix them instead of warming separately and if you are warming together don’t forget to still add the tea bag in the pot.
- Once the water and milk get warm pull the water off of the stove and put the milk on low temperature. At this point add the water, sugar and vanilla to the mix. Let them all come together in a homogeneous mix and once that’s done turn the stove off.
- After this leave the tea for a moment so it can cool slightly. Then pour into your cup.
- Add your favorite creamer and any additional toppings if you prefer. Such as whipped cream, cinnamon or cinnamon sticks for a cute look. I always add creamer and whipped cream to give the tea a creamier taste and texture. Almost like a coffee.
- Then enjoy!
Like I said this chai tea recipe is super simple anyone can do it and it turns out incredibly delicious. It’s extremely customizable to your liking and takes ingredients that most of us have around the house to begin with! Mix them together and you have the dreamiest tea ever! Thank you for reading, let me know what you think and God bless you!
