Flowers are so often called a nuisance in your yard or garden. If not in their respective flower bed they are killed with spray or ran over with the lawn mower. In the modern world we so often want perfection in the appearance of our yard and gardens based off of a societal standard. This is especially relevant to specific flowers, wildflowers, and “weeds”. But God didn’t make flowers for no reason. Many have extremely effective medicinal purposes and help grow other plants and vegetables we grow by bringing in more productive life and cross pollination. Let’s bring the beauty and culture of wildlife back into our cookie-cutter homes, yards, and gardens again this year. This is five awesome flowers for the garden you need to plant this year! Let’s move them out of the flower boxes and into the yard and garden as well!
This is 5 Flowers for the Garden
Before we start this feels like a great time to give a pre-warning that you do your own research before consuming flowers, weeds or wild flowers. Also to find correct varieties, etc.
Now let’s jump in!
1.) The Wild Daisy
I’m talking the small white flowers that grow in your lawn. Let’s stop calling flowers weeds- especially with the medicinal benefits of flowers like the daisy. Growing daisies on purpose in your garden allows for the potential for amazing tea, to use for bruises, or for inflammatory healing when digested naturally! To plant I always do this using the ones which grow in my own yard, you can transfer them or use the seeds. This is the way I always go.
2.) The Rose Bush
Roses in the garden is a must. I literally cannot empathize this enough. Besides being absolutely gorgeous, adding to the aesthetics of the garden, but they have so many other practical uses. They attract and feed specific animals, the flower petals and rose hips can be used in tea and serve to help the body in so many ways. The cross pollination between vegetable plants and flowers is so beneficial to the garden as well. This applies to every plant and flower in your space. Having a wider variety can cause your garden to flourish far greater than without. Having flowers often brings in bees and butterflies that aren’t often in the garden space at the same rates as with having flowers as well.
3.) Nasturtiums
Besides every species of nasturtium being edible they are extremely beneficial to plant with specific vegetables to prevent pests, maintain the fertile nature of each plant, and also to maintain healthy crops. A few examples is: broccoli, kale, cucumbers, pumpkins and more.

4.) Clover (SPecifically Red)
My childhood was often spent running around in the yard to find these flowers for this purpose. You could pull out each “petal” and suck the delicious flavor out the bottom. These flowers are yummy as a small snack, as long as you look up what parts are edible! They also are used medicinally and to attract bees and other beneficial pollinating insects and bugs. They bring natural wild behavior back to the earth and the soil like was intended. Saving instead of spraying these types of plants may show great effects on your land or in your yard and garden. (Again not lying has to look perfect and orderly to be perfect).

5.) LaveNder
Lastly, and one of the most familiar, is lavender. Lavender is also fabulous for bringing creatures, amazing smells, beautiful colors and amazing teas, foods, and garnish and flavor to your garden space and food palette. Also you can use for cleaners, wax melts, spray, and more for your home and for good smelling gifts! Some are edible and some aren’t and so be sure you buy the correct ones! But do include these flowers for the garden this year!
