I was never a makeup girl in school and didn’t start wearing it until I was a Junior in High School. That was simply a layer of foundation and maybe a light color on my eyebrows from a sample product. Once I was a senior I began wearing makeup for real, the whole nine yards. Foundation too thick and pale. Glittery brown eyelids, with occasional eyeliner. Dark lips. I wore makeup like this when I started my first job, and didn’t stop until a little over a year ago. I went through a process of simplifying, and creating a minimal makeup routine to match the simplicity and minimalistic actions of the rest of my life. This is my new routine.
First, why reconsider your long routine? It isn’t for everyone, I get that. But I assume if you are reading this that the idea may be on your mind! I changed my routine for a multitude of reasons, but most honestly appreciate the natural beauty of my skin and the simplicity to myself without the hours of makeup. It feels like I show us real and raw to every crowd I meet. I prepare a minimal lifestyle, an authentic way of living, and appreciate humanity at its bare. I have nothing and no one to prove myself to like I thought I did in my younger years. Also, as a Christian natural beauty is extremely important to me. Vulnerability and bare beauty of nature, minimalistic homes, meals cooked from scratch, simple outfits. Humanity at its natural state. I also remember this verse,
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
Simple ways, focus on depth, and joy of life matter more to me now than my physical appearance matching worldly trends. This isn’t to say makeup us wrong, I believed that for so long and it’s just not true. But for me, this was my better option, my more convicting option because of my beliefs and what I desire to live like. So without further ado, considering this deep reasoning for skipping rich makeup looks, let’s go over what I do wear.
A Simplified MiNimal Makeup Routine
My actual routine includes six products, but three are skincare, and you can read about them here.
But with those products aside there is three makeup items left. These three are what we will go over today.
This routine takes five minutes tops, making my makeup routine go from being the longest part of my morning to the fastest and still seriously amplifies my favorite facial features naturally.
Let’s dive in!
1.) Eyebrow Pencil
First step for me is to darken my eyebrows. Right now I’m using a sample product but my go to is a simple eyebrow pencil. I am not particular on brand so I just attached an Amazon best seller by L’Oreal. I do a very light shade and brush it throughout the brow. Doing a very natural look. My eyebrows are blonde so anything to make them noticeable is all I go for here. I do not draw a shape, I shape my eyebrows by plucking or waxing a shape so that they only need darkened.
2.) Mascara
This mascara I am extremely particular about. I have long lashes and, of course, I love to enhance them. This mascara does just that. I cannot recommend it enough. Maybelline High Sky in Blackest Black is my favorite. I usually apply one layer, then apply my concealer. After this I add a second layer. If I have an empty bottle I will use the wand from that mascara as a third layer simply to make sure my lashes are sticking together so the volume is at its fullest.
3.) Concealer
Lastly, if there is extra redness or a blemish on my face that is overbearing I will cover her up. The concealer I use started as a sample but I really liked the coverage and continue to use it. It’s called Pūrlisse Perfect Glow BB Concealer and it works amazing for me.
That is my simple routine. It is extremely effective. I love living a simpler life in this way. That sounds dramatic but many women I grew up around and even now spend hours getting ready in the morning. That was me for three years. I just couldn’t do it anymore. The ease that comes with simply putting my health, character and skin first actually makes me feel more beautiful than the hours of makeup I did before. This is a major reason for changing to a minimal makeup routine. Let me know your thoughts below and subscribe for more content like this.
